Our beautiful baby girl has recently started exhibiting rapid head-dropping episodes. After speaking with several therapists and an urgent visit with our pediatrician, and then a brief consult with a children’s neurologist, we were advised to rush to the nearest children’s hospital emergency room. The concern was that these episodes were presenting identical to infantile spasms which usually have poor outcomes and can often be fatal.
Once at the children’s hospital, who immediately saw us, Elora was hooked up for an EEG. During the one hour EEG she had over 25 head-drop events. The final results from the EEG show “no abnormal activity” meaning it is not and was not seizures (this is good news) but now we are left with a diagnosis of benign myoclonus of infancy which is fancy terminology for ‘something is not right, but it may turn out to be nothing.’ With this diagnosis there is hope that nothing is wrong and Elora may outgrow this phase in a year or two or it may mean that another cause such as a brain mᴀss or other unknown may be the cause and just hasn’t been tested yet. Essentially our little family is asking for prayers that this truly is benign, that through some miraculous way God has already heard our numerous prayers and she is healed.
Please please pray for our little girl. She is always so happy and pure and just absolutely a beautiful little soul
